Wanda Kay Freeze Corriher

May 9, 1952 — February 13, 2021

Wanda Kay Freeze Corriher went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 13th, 2021, after a valiant struggle with the COVID-19 virus. She leaves behind many family members and friends who are heart-broken at her death.

Wanda was born on May 9th, 1952, in Iredell County, NC, to the late Walter Ray Freeze and Mary Mae Sechler Freeze. She was educated in Rowan County schools, graduating in 1970 from South Rowan High School. She graduated from UNC-Charlotte in 1974 with a degree in mathematics. She began her teaching career that year in the Charlotte school system before beginning with Rowan-Salisbury Schools in 1979. She taught math at both North Rowan High and South Rowan High before retiring in 2009. She held several other teaching assignments after retirement, bringing her total years in public education to nearly 40.

Wanda was very active in the church she was a lifetime member of, Mount Zion United Church of Christ in China Grove. She taught an adult Sunday school class there for 40 years, served on the Consistory for 10 years, including two years as president, and she was currently the chairperson of the Mount Zion Preschool Committee. Her love of animals also led her to work for several years at Rowan Animal Clinic.

Wanda gave up her other jobs in 2015 for her true calling – being a grandmother. A more loving and caring grandmommy there has never been.

Wanda is survived by her husband of 47 years, Clyde Franklin Corriher, Jr.; her son Andy and wife Jessica; her son Philip and wife Nicole; and her daughter Laura Holshouser and husband Andrew. She is also survived by the loves of her life, her grandchildren. They are Arden Corriher and Wyatt Heilig, Philippa (Pippa) and Clyde Corriher, and Cora and Amelia Holshouser. Wanda is also survived by her brother, Jerry Freeze and wife Donna, and sister, Shelia Nance and husband Ron. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Wanda’s family will hold a private service to remember her. Memorials can be made to Mount Zion United Church of Christ, PO Box 1298, China Grove, NC 28023; to the Mount Zion New Construction Fund; or to the Mount Zion Preschool.

The family of Wanda Corriher would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Novant Health-Rowan Medical Center, especially nurse practitioner Caroline Waller, whom Wanda thought of as a second daughter.
