Mr. Wilkes H. Davis, Sr., 75, a dedicated husband and loving father, of S. Franklin Street, China Grove, died Saturday, June 2, 2007, at his home, after a courageous battle with melanoma. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Craig Luper will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12:45 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the residence. Born July 15, 1931, in Montclair, NJ, he was the son of the late Wilkes G. Davis and Edith Dorothy Drobny Davis. He was a graduate of Newark College of Engineering and retired as an engineer with Spartech Polycom in Kearny, NJ. He was a member of Evangel Church in Scotch Plains, NJ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Earl Davis. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Doris Elaine Davison Davis of the home; a son, Wilkes H. Davis, Jr. of Monmouth Junction, NJ; a daughter, Amy S. Davis Harris and husband, W. Andrew Harris of Concord; two sisters, Doris Budenbender of Dutch Neck, NJ and Bette Lantier of Trenton, NJ; and two grandchildren, Brian Richard Davis of Monmouth Junction, NJ and Sara Renee Davis of Hamilton, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Evangel Church, Youth Missions, 1251 Terrill Road, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076.
