William Grant Tarlton

November 4, 1928 — December 22, 2015

Mr. William Grant "Bill" Tarlton, 87, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Sunday, December 27, 2015, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Tom Cabaniss will officiate. Entombrment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum in Kannapolis.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 pm Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home.

Mr. Tarlton was born November 4, 1928 in Union County and attended Marshville High School. He was a son of the late William Kemp Tarlton and Ailene Grant Tarlton. He retired from Kannapolis Construction Company after 33 years, where he was a General Superintendent and later was the Vice President of Construction Management with Atlantic American Properties. He also owned and operated Dixie Cleaners in Kannapolis for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and usher and he also worked on the Finance Committee. Mr. Tarlton was also a member of the Cannon Memorial Masonic Lodge #626 A.F. & A.M. in Kannapolis and The Oasis Shriners in Charlotte.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Myrtle Carpenter; and his step-mother from age 4, Louise Hayes Tarlton.

Mr. Tarlton is survived by his wife, Inez Godwin Tarlton; daughter, Debbie O'Shields of Easley, SC; three brothers, Haskell Tarlton and wife Annette of Peachland, NC, J.C. Tarlton and wife Mary of Marshville, NC, and Kenneth Tarlton and wife Ann of Monroe; two sisters, Mildred Davis of Greensboro and Elaine Kiker and husband David of Marshville; grandson, Jeremy Tutt; step-granddaughter, Gretchen Haskett and husband Nathan; step-grandson, Jeremy O'Shields and wife Priscilla; and five great-grandchildren.
