Mr. William “Bill” Baker Ward, 73, of Highland Drive passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014, at CMC-NorthEast after years of failing health.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Christopher Ward will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:45 pm Tuesday prior to the service at Lady’s Funeral Home.
Mr. Ward was born on December 6, 1941 in Cabarrus County. He was a son of the late William McCarter Ward and Modena Wilhelm Ward. He was a 1961 graduate of A.L. Brown High School. Mr. Ward was employed at Cannon Mills Plant 1 in Kannapolis as a Fire Marshall until retirement. In his early years, he was a volunteer firefighter with the Kannapolis Volunteer Fire Department. Bill was an avid football and NASCAR fan and loved spending time with his best friend, Sugarbaby.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Jane Moore Ward; and a daughter, Julie Elizabeth Ward.
Mr. Ward is survived by his daughter, Tamara W. Hord and husband Greg of Concord; sister, Judy W. Gainey and husband, Steve of Kannapolis; two brothers, Mike Ward and wife Julie and Robert Ward and wife Jean, all of Kannapolis; one granddaughter, Brooke Byrd; two great granddaughters , Emily Byrd and Marley Cunningham; and beloved dog, “Sugarbaby”.
