Alonzo Marvin McCollum's Obituary
Mr. Alonzo Marvin McCollum, 89, of Sharpe Avenue, died Sunday, December 9, 2007 at CMC-NorthEast in Concord.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Willie Rash will officiate. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove with Military Funeral Honors by the U.S. Army.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 am Wednesday prior to the service.
Mr. McCollum was born in Anderson County, SC, a son of the late James Walter McCollum and Wilda Kelley McCollum. He was a member of Centerview Baptist Church, Poston Perkins Post 8989 of the VFW and the American Legion. In 1983, he retired from Cannon Mills, where he had worked for over 40 years, having worked in the bleachery and the No. 5 card room. During World War II he was with the 7th Army in the Army Corp of Engineers serving throughout Europe and received two Bronze Service Stars, the American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen McCollum and a son Tim McCollum.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Rodgers McCollum, a son Terry M. McCollum and wife Patricia of Kannapolis, a step-daughter, Genie Anderson, four grandchildren, Mark Allen McCollum, Patrick McCollum, Stephanie A. Eudy, Brandi A. Grey and six great-grandchildren.
