Betty Jean Meacham Spry's Obituary
Mrs. Betty Jean Meacham Spry, 90, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, August 10, 2017.
A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Sunday, August 13, 2017, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Phillip Kingsland will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 2:45 pm Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mrs. Spry was born October 31, 1926 in Cabarrus County. She was a daughter of the late Phillip Dartridge Meacham and Susan Rebecca Reynolds Meacham. She graduated from J.W. Cannon High School and Cabarrus County Hospital School of Nursing through the US Nurse Cadet Corps during World War II. She was employed by Cabarrus Memorial Hospital and later by the Cabarrus County Health Department from which she retired in 1985. After retirement she traveled extensively throughout the world visiting all continents. She was a member of North Kannapolis United Methodist Church for 60 plus years and was active in all phases of church work.
For several years, she volunteered with the Western North Carolina Conference Building Team traveling to various countries aiding in church construction. Betty was a very active volunteer with the YMCA and served on the Executive Board. Her favorite past times were traveling, reading, swimming and working in her yard. She was a very loving Christian lady who could always be counted on in good times and bad. Her love for her family was boundless.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Carl Hill Spry; three brothers, Ed Meacham, Harold Meacham and Phil Meacham; and three sisters, Mary Neal Pridgen, Geraldine Moore and Marjorie Mansfield.
Mrs. Spry is survived by two daughters, Joyce Stone of Myrtle Beach, SC and Carla Smith and husband Tommy of Concord; three grandchildren, Michael Stone and Amanda Stone of Myrtle Beach, SC and Taylor Smith of Concord; and two great grandchildren, Mason and Malea Stone of Myrtle Beach, SC.
