Charles Edward Odom's Obituary
Mr. Charles Edward Odom, 79, passed away Friday, August 31, 2012 at CMC-NorthEast.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at Friendship Freewill Baptist Church. Rev. Marler Starnes and Rev. George Morris will officiate. Entombment with military honors will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum in Kannapolis. The body will lie in-state at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Odom was born August 28, 1933 in Metter, GA. He was the son of the late Willie Edgar Odom and Velma Naomi Gooding Odom. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in Korea. After his retirement, he worked for Cannon Mills. He was a member of Friendship Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Carithers Odom, in January 2011.
Mr. Odom is survived by his daughter, Kathy Massey and husband, Tony of Smithfield; son, Timothy Odom of Kannapolis; daughter-in-law, Tamara Odom of China Grove; five grandchildren, Michael Odom and wife Amy, Nathan Massey and wife Jennifer, Anthony Odom, Caleb Massey and Benjamin Odom; and four great grandchildren, Amaris Taylin Massey, Garris Andrew Massey, Ava Grace Massey and Benry Lennon Odom.
The family requests memorials for Mr. Odom to be directed to the Massey Building Fund, c/o Beacon International, 2110 Trawick Road, Raleigh, NC 27604 to aid in the missionary work of his grandson, Nathan Massey.
