Claude Milton Key's Obituary
Mr. Claude Milton Key, Jr., 72, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016, after a short illness.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. James Pauley will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm - 1:45 pm Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Key was born December 3, 1943 in Wilkes County, NC. He was the son of the late Claude M. Key, Sr. and Grace Higgins Key. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the U.S. Army Reserves at the 846 Transportation Company in Salisbury, NC, retiring after 30 years of service in 2003 from the 120th ARCOM, Fort Jackson as a Logistics Maintenance Officer. Claude retired after 30 years of employment with the Department of the Army at AMSA Maintenance Shop in Charlotte, NC as a civilian Area Maintenance Officer. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time gardening, restoring tractors, operating his sawmill, was a dedicated bee keeper and a professional loafer with his friends at Centerview Hardware.
Mr. Key, in addition to his parents, is survived by his wife, Jane Key; son, Bill Key; two daughters, Tina Key Barrett and husband David, and Rebecca Hickok; two granddaughters, Natalie Barrett and Leah Barrett Beaver and husband Adam Beaver; three sisters, Frances Goforth, Shirley Rhodes, and Becky Patterson; and best friend, cousin Mike Higgins and wife Nancy.
