Donald Lee Sechler's Obituary
Donald Lee "Don" "Sonny" Sechler moved from his home at 542 Eastway Avenue, to his mansion in heaven on Dec. 15, 2009 at 11:43 p.m. and is now resting in the arms of God. He is now singing in that Heavenly choir.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today (Friday) at Centerview Baptist Church. The Rev. Willis Rash will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park.
The family is to receive friends, Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m.
Born Jan. 29, 1935 in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Jacob Lee Sechler and Edith Correll Sechler. He was 74. He was an active member of Centerview Baptist Church, and often sang solos, and sometimes with his great-grand daughter, Savannah. A deacon in his church he was also chairman of the Usher Committee, and served on the finance and properties committees. He was also a member of the Allen Graham Masonic Lodge and the 700 Club.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years and nine months, Ethel Rogers Sechler; one son Donald Scott Sechler and his wife Pamela Sechler of the home; one grandson, Jacob Scott Sechler of Kannapolis; a great-grand daughter, Savannah; three sisters, Hilda Gaskins of Kannapolis, Margaret Widenhouse and husband Jim, of Spartanburg, SC, and Mary Belle "Makie" Harris and husband, Wiley of Charlotte; his special sister-in-law, Katherine Ohmes and husband, Al of Kannapolis; two special nieces, Tammy Lefler Lambert of Concord and Diane Lefler Feico of Simpsonville, S.C.
After 35 years of over the road driving an 18 wheeler, he retired from Yellow Freight in 1996. He was a member of Teamster Local Union #71.
