Dorothy Arlene Foster's Obituary
Dorothy Arlene Bates Foster, 75, of 808 East 22nd Street, Kannapolis, died Monday, April 26, 2010 at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation in Concord, following a serious illness of three weeks.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2010 at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. Mr. Danny Duran will officiate.
The family will greet friends at the cemetery following the service. At other times they will be at the home of her daughter, Teresa Coley, 810 East 22nd Street, Kannapolis.
Born May 13, 1934 in Cabarrus County, Arlene was the daughter of the late William Clay Bates and Edna Nunn Bates. She was employed for many years at the former Cannon Mills, where she worked at Plant One and the Swink Plant. She later worked for Fieldcrest-Cannon Mills. Most recently, she was employed as a greeter at Walmart in Kannapolis. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Ray Foster; brother, Jimmy Clay Bates; and a granddaughter, Jessica Renee Hammonds.
Survivors include a daughter, Teresa Foster Coley and husband, Laney of Kannapolis; two sons, Randall Hammonds of the home and Roger Franklin Foster and wife, Vicki, of Pangburn, Arkansas; one sister, Phyllis Bates Shive of Salisbury; a brother, William Ray "Bill" Bates, Sr. of Kannapolis; one granddaughter, Tamera Coley Gallagher and husband, Sean, of Charlotte; three great-grandchildren, Ava, Madelyn and Landon Gallagher; and a special great-nephew, Alex Stewart, who held a 'happy' spot in Arlene's heart.
