Dorothy Schmidt Cole's Obituary
Dorothy Schmidt Cole of Kannapolis passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021. She was born September 19, 1913 in Warren, PA. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry C. Schmidt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley H. Cole.
Dorothy lived a full life in her 107 years. She was employed with Ames Research Center: NASA, the San Jose Public School System and served in the United States Marine Corps. Dorothy served during World War II in Quantico VA and has been an active member of the Marine Corps League, Cabarrus Detachment 1175. In 2020, she was given national recognition as the oldest living Marine.
Dorothy was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church (731 Union Street South, Concord, NC 28025) for over 40 years. It was her request that donations be made to her church or to the Marine Corps League Cabarrus Detachment 1174 (PO Box 2033, Concord, NC 28026-2033) in lieu of flowers.
Survivors include her daughter, Beth Cole Kluttz ( wife of the late Jimmy Kluttz); two granddaughters, Lenna Kluttz Boger (Dustin) and Ashley Kluttz Barth (William); six great grandchildren, Braelyn Barth, Elizabeth Boger, Annabelle Barth, James Barth, Colt Boger and Gracen Barth.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Crosspointe Baptist Church in Concord on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at 2:00 pm. Masks are required. It will be live streamed on Facebook and viewed through Crosspointe Baptist Church @Crosspointe.Baptist.Concord.Baptist Church. For everyone's health and safety, there will be no visitation.
