Douglas Griffin's Obituary
Mr. Douglas "Doug" Griffin, 83, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at his residence.
A Service of Celebration is scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday, July 21, 2017, at New Grace Baptist Church. Pastor Allen S. Montgomery will officiate. Entombment with military honors provided by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 pm Friday at New Grace Baptist Church in Concord.
Mr. Griffin was born March 12, 1934 in Dillon County, SC. He was a son of the late Roy Alan Griffin and Lillian Hunt Griffin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Korea. When he met Betty Bryant, it was love at first sight and they married not long after. Mr. Griffin loved Nascar. He was a master builder and enjoyed creating anything out of wood. He made many beautiful knives and canes, which he enjoyed giving to his family and friends as much as he enjoyed making them. He was kind and generous, and his sense of humor brightened the lives of those around him. He was a well-loved man and will be missed beyond measure until his family and friends see him again.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Gerald Griffin and Leroy Griffin; and sister, Jeanette Griffin.
Mr. Griffin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Griffin; daughter, Cynthia Smith and husband Flay of Charlotte, Felicia Hayes and husband Michael of Kannapolis, Pamela Mann and husband Steven of Concord and Amanda Taylor and husband James of Concord; sister, Edna Lloyd of Burlington; three grandchildren, Heather Enloe, Brittany Root and Dillon Mann; and three great grandchildren, Aiden Root, Chase Enloe and Greyson Enloe.
The family wants to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of Novant Health Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to New Grace Baptist Church, P.O. Box 567, Concord, NC 28026.
