Eddie Howard Griffin's Obituary
Eddie Howard Griffin, 66, of 245 White Crane Road, Salisbury, died Sunday, May 24, 2009 at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Trading Ford Baptist Church. The Rev. Mike Motley will officiate. Interment will follow at the Salisbury National Cemetery with military honors conducted by the U.S. Navy. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home.
Born May 9, 1943 in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late William Everett Griffin and Iona Montgomery Griffin. He worked in auto sales in Concord and Salisbury. Eddie was a member of Carolina's Chrysler Club. His hobbies included collecting classic cars ("1973 Chevy Nova" and a "1973 Dodge Challenger"), camping, boating and woodworking. A Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army, he was a life member of the DAV and VFW of Concord.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Jeanette Griffin, Linda Barbee, Elizabeth "Lib" Fleming and Ida Mae Bost; and a brother, William E. "Chief" Griffin.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne Lowe Griffin; three daughters, Leslie L. Taylor and husband, Les, of Concord, Michele L. Shimberg and husband, Jeremy, and Melanie R. Tysinger and husband, Jeff, all of Salisbury; five sons, Richard A. Griffin and wife, Donna, of Salisbury, William "Michael" Griffin and wife, Lisa, of Concord, Larry E. Griffin and wife, Tammy, and Timothy A. Griffin and wife, Sherry, both of Mt. Pleasant, John Griffin and wife, Tina, of Gastonia; one brother, James "Jim" Griffin and wife, Jackie, of Titusville, Fla.; grandchildren, Victor Hartline, James Few "Jr.", Derrick, Katherine, Jacob, Landon, Justin, Zachery, Matthew, Chloe, David and Brittany Griffin, "JD" Tysinger, Seth and Samantha Shimberg, Don-Lee and Brittany Taylor; foster-mother, Aunt Willie Griffin of Fort Mill, SC; sister-in-law, Martha Griffin of Laurel Springs; and mother-in-law, Barbara Dunnmon of Kannapolis.
