Edward Thomas Sampson's Obituary
Mr. Edward Thomas Sampson, 79, passed into the Lords arms on November 4, 2010.
A funeral mass will be held at 8:00 pm Sunday, November 7, 2010, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Father Al Requiem will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4:00 pm Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home. The body will lie in-state at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
He was born July 30, 1931 in Queens, NY. He was the son of the late LeRoy Olaf Sampson and Catherine Fitzpatrick Sampson. Mr. Sampson was scouted and played Minor League Baseball for the then Brooklyn Dodgers until 1956. He retired from Public Safety in Hempstead, NY and retired to Florida until moving to Concord in 2009 to be closer to his family.
He is a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a past president of the guest members of the American Legion Post #854 of Valley Stream, NY and one of the founding members. He was also a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kannapolis.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen Sampson; two daughters, Cynthia DeVoe and Linda Sampson, as well as, step-children, Sharon Stecher, Gail Davey, James Dibble and David Dibble and their families, and Lori Cheatom. Edward is also survived by ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 108 St. Joseph Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
