Eugene William Wampler's Obituary
Mr. Eugene William Wampler, 94, a resident of The Haven at Highland Creek in Charlotte, died Friday, December 31, 2004, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 am Monday, January 3, 2004, at Carolina Memorial Park. Rev. Leon Hawks will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Wampler was born September 11, 1910 in Big Stone Gap, VA. He was a son of the late William Ernest Wampler and Margaret Turner Wampler. Mr. Wampler was a graduate of Milligan College in Johnson City, TN where he played football as a running back. He was a coal salesman for Southern Coal Company and retired from Zapata Fuels after 55 years of service. He was veteran of the U.S. Army where he served during World War II. He was a Mason, a member of the VFW Stonewall Jackson Post in Charlotte and a member of the Temple Masonic Lodge in Charlotte. He was past president of the Wake County Coin & Mineral Club.
Mr. Wampler is survived by his wife, Janie Brooks Wampler; son, Bill Wampler and his wife, Sarah, of Charlotte; brother, Frank E. Wampler of Charlotte; sister Bettye W. Dotson of Charlotte; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.
