Evelyn Lacy Gainey Gulledge's Obituary
Mrs. Evelyn Lacy Gainey Gulledge, 90, was called home on Thursday, December 8, 2022.
A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends from 11 to 1:00 pm Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gulledge was born April 10, 1932 in Hartsville, SC. She was the eldest child of the late Archie Gainey and Mazalee Outlaw Gainey. She retired in 1982 from Cannon Mills Plant One where she worked in the weave room. The grandmother of dozens and great grandmother to many, Evelyn enjoyed spending time on her front porch rocking chair, tending her flowers and gardening, baking pineapple cakes, peaches from McLeods orchard, and Braves Baseball.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Gulledge; two daughters, Carolyn Gulledge and Jenny Gabriel; sister, Dorothy Freemen; and three brothers, Robert Gainey, Raymond Gainey and Jerry Gainey.
Mrs. Gulledge is survived by eight children, James Randy Gulledge, David Gulledge, Rick Gulledge, Larry Gulledge, Elaine Raymer and Billy Gulledge; five sisters, Joyce Freeman, Juanita Jones, Lillian Bowlin, Ann Smith, Rachel Martin; and one brother, Thomas Gainey. Evelyn counted Richard Mattison and Gina Mattison Thompson among her children.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor her memory with donations to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
