George Ray Yates' Obituary
Mr. George Ray Yates, 78, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2016, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Greg Sloop will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm - 1:45 pm Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Yates was born February 22, 1938 in Johnson County, GA. He was a son of the late Joseph Wilson Yates and Polly Tucker Yates. He worked for Cannon Mills in the dye department for over 20 years, Lowes for 12 years, and then over 10 years for Kwik Way Catering. He loves his grandchildren and never missed a chance to watch his granddaughter play soccer. He attended Kannapolis City Schools and loved to watch all sports - especially the Wonders football games. Mr. Yates loved to go to the beach with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, whom he married on December 16, 1956, Virginia Frances Bennett Yates; three brothers; and three sisters.
Mr. Yates is survived by daughter, Sheila Yates Helms and husband Phil; son, Roger Yates and DeShan, both of China Grove; granddaughter, Brooke Helms; grandson, Nicolas Helms; and many special nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Williams, Beth, Ashley, and Candace for all their kindness and care at the Levine Cancer and Oncology Department at Carolinas Healthcare System-NorthEast.
