Gladys Mae Bates' Obituary
Miss Gladys Mae Bates, 91, of Big Elm Retirement Center and formerly of N. Poplar Avenue, Kannapolis, died Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at Big Elm Retirement Center.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday at Carolina Memorial Park. Rev. Sam Crisp will officiate.
Miss Bates was born November 11, 1911 in Covington, GA. She was a daughter of the late Samuel Bates and Amanda Jane Smith Bates. She retired several years ago from the Number 2 Spinning Room of Cannon Mills, Plant One. She had lived in this area since 1924 and attended Kannapolis Church of God.
Miss Bates is survived by a niece Laura Hampton Higgins of Los Angeles, CA; great nephew, Jim Higgins and John Higgins, both of California; great niece, Julie Hampton of St. Petersburg, FL.
