Gloria Lucille Pethel's Obituary
Gloria "Lucy" Lucille Burgess Pethel, 73, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 11, 2012.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jeff Rushing will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at Lady's Funeral Home prior to the service.
Mrs. Pethel was born on August 9, 1938 in Anson County. She was the daughter of the late John Benton Burgess and Pauline Thomas Burgess.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Richard Pethel; brothers, Joe Robert Burgess, John Mason "Mack" Burgess and James Herman Burgess and sister, Myrtle Burgess Deese.
Mrs. Pethel retired from the washcloth department of Cannon Mills in 1999. She resided in Cabarrus County for most of her life. For the last nine months, she was a resident of Five Oaks Nursing Home where on good days you could find her sitting up with her beautiful smile, awaiting any visitors. The family would like to personally thank the staff of Five Oaks, especially a nurse named Nickie for the personal care and attention she constantly gave.
She is survived by two daughters, Pam Boyles and husband Lacy of Harrisburg and Carla Pethel and partner Sherry Jones of Mooresville; two sons, Marty Pethel of Concord and Shane Pethel and wife Renee of Kannapolis; brother, Bradford Lee Burgess and wife Dolly of Kannapolis; four sisters, Carolyn Watson and husband Harold of Concord, Ava Catherine Munday of Concord, Frances Pearline Bunn of Salisbury and Mary Helen Ingold of Albemarle; six grandchildren, Matthew and Jason Boyles, Jared and Megan Pethel, Jennie and Sara Pethel; two sister in laws, Gin Burgess of Charlotte and Lorene Burgess of Concord; two great grandsons; mother in law, Kathleen Pethel of Kannapolis; many nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.
