Grace Pauline Hancock's Obituary
Grace Pauline Hancock, 94, of Kannapolis, NC, went home September 2nd 2009 to be with her Lord. Her final days were spent surrounded by her family and she is now reunited with her husband, Woodrow Wilson Hancock.
She was born February 1, 1915 in Mt. Croghan, SC, the 4th of 12 children to Daisy Jane Rollins and Robert Lester Hancock.
Grace was a Christian mother of seven loving children and faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for most of her adult life. She served the Lord faithfully by volunteering in the church nursery, the beginners Sunday School classes and the GA's. She was a faithful member of the WMU until her illness this year. She loved people, especially children, and shared her joy for life every moment of every day with a smile. Grace loved to work in her garden, plant flowers and rake leaves, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. Her most treasured moments were the times when she was surrounded by her friends and relatives.
She is survived by daughter Sylvia Overcash and husband, Ronnie; son Donald Hancock and wife Carol; son Robert Hancock and wife Faye; son Tony Hancock and wife Gale; daughter Ellen Hancock and husband Jerry Ellenburg; daughter Lynn Goins and husband Gene; son Joe Hancock and wife Angie; sister Kathleen Baker; sister Dorothy Gulledge; sister Myrtle Jordan; sister Billie Jean Knight and brother Fred Hancock. She is also survived by grandchildren Eric Hancock, Monica Hancock, Ricky Overcash, Randy Overcash, Donna Freeze, Darrell Hancock, Tony Lee Hancock, Clinton Hancock, Michelle Drye, Jessi Ellenburg, Jeren "Rick" Ellenburg, and Brandi Ward, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 �1:30pm at the funeral home. Outside of the scheduled services, the family will continue to receive friends at her home.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 or to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 703 Buick Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28081. The family would like to thank all of the Hospice caregivers, and give a special thanks to Tiffany Perry for her love and tender care.
A word from her children: "It was an honor to call you Mom. The good lord has blessed us with many happy and precious memories of our time with you. We love you and will miss you. And as you always said, �We'll do the best we can.'"
