Henry Richard Hoff's Obituary
H. Richard Hoff, M.D. of Concord, NC, formerly of Isle of Palms, SC and Old Tappan, NJ, passed away on July 21, 2016. Richard was predeceased by his adored wife of 56 years, Beverly. Beloved father of Dorrie Schofield (Dave), Tricia Dillon (Sean) and Lori Holt (Mark). Cherished grandfather of Kelly, Alison, Kevin, Richard, Katie, Kristin, Samantha and Mandy. Doting great-grandfather of Savannah. Also survived by his loving sister, Marilyn Conner.
Dr. Hoff graduated with honors from Wagner College and NYU College of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at Bellevue Hospital in NYC, and served as captain in the US Army in Valley Forge, PA. He was board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, and was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. For more than 30 years, he was in private practice in Westwood, NJ, where he also served as Chief of Medicine at Pascack Valley Hospital and as a Medical Director of the Valley Nursing Home. He was a brilliant diagnostician and dedicated physician who was much admired and loved by his patients, and respected by his peers.
Richard enjoyed golf, music (especially the Met Opera), and fine wine. He loved to read, particularly biographies and history. After retiring, he and Beverly moved to Wild Dunes in the Isle of Palms, SC, where they welcomed friends and family, and spoiled their grandchildren. They were always happiest when surrounded by family.
Arrangements are being handled by Lady’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis, NC. Services are private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Doctors Without Borders, or a charity of choice.
