Mr. Mullis was born June 2, 1926 in Concord. He was a son of the late Lonnie Mullis and Elizabeth Davis Mullis. Ira served in the US Army in WWII. He became a barber starting Concord and later owned and operated his own barbershop in Kannapolis for over 62 years at various locations. Starting at the old Ballpark Barber Shop on Gay Street, old Freeze's Barber Shop on West C Street, Helms and Mullis (Drye) Barber Shop on Oak Avenue in downtown Kannapolis and finally Mullis Barber Shop on Jackson Park Road. Whomever Ira spoke with, they knew him as a humble man and one who loved Jesus Christ first and foremost. While he was a member of several churches including Calvary Baptist Church and Midway Methodist Church, in his later years, he enjoyed Multiply Church (Concord First Assembly), Blackwelder Park Baptist and Living Waters Church of God. Ira was also an active member, even at 96, for Mid Carolinas Tres Dias (MCTD).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Adelaide Rebecca Mullis; his two sisters, Hazel Mullis McClamrock and Evelyn Mullis Moore; and his brother Leroy (Doc) Mullis.
