Jack Harvey Mercer's Obituary
Jack H. Mercer, 75, of Kannapolis, NC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with leukemia.
He was born April 17, 1946 in Hartford, CT, son of the late Wallace Harvey Mercer and Margery Estelle Mercer.
After graduating from high school, Jack proudly served our country in the U.S. Coast Guard for several years. He was a lifelong auto racing fan and raced quarter-midget race cars with his two sisters while growing up in Connecticut. Some of his favorite racing memories included spending time with his father at the Daytona International Speedway. His biggest accomplishment in life was being father to his four children and Papa to his numerous grand and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Deborah Davis-Wilder.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Darlene Mercer, three daughters, Tammy (Marcus) Wever, Lisa (Chad) Murdock, Jill (Eddie) Johnson and a son Danny (Terri) Peele. He is also survived by nine grandchildren Rick (Neah) Little, Jessica (Charles) Lewandoski, Brandon (Sydney) Allen, Jordan Allen, Brandi Little, Whitney (Jarred) Johnson, Zachary Mercer, Alyson Peele, Alexander Johnson and four Great-Grand Children, Jada, Jayden, Makaila and Ryder. He is also survived by his two sisters, Pamela (Stuart) Wally and Joan Gourley and many nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a private Celebration of Life for Jack at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in honor of Jack to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
