James Wilson Pope's Obituary
Mr. James Wilson Pope, 63, of Concord, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2020, at his home with his family after his second battle with cancer.
He was born on January 20, 1957 to the late Nathan Wilson Pope and Cottien Grey Pope. He attended Sun Valley High School in Union County. He was the owner of Pope's Auto Body & Paint Shop. He had a passion for working on cars, but his greatest accomplishment was being called Pawpaw.
James fought like a warrior in his six year battle with cancer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelly Pope.
He is survived by his wife, Ginger Pope; two daughters, Christy Honeycutt (Wayne Watson) of Kannapolis and Candi Newton (Roger Lee Newton) of Concord. The sparkles in his eyes were his grandchildren, Bryanna and Tyler Honeycutt and Savannah and Kynlee Newton. Also surviving is his sister, Tammy Robertson (Lee); and brothers, Jim Pope (Jewell) and Rusty Pope; a brother-in-law, Randy Weast (Sheri), Toby Weast (LeAnne); and sister-in-law, Lorrie Hampton (David). He considered his mother-in-law, Dale Weast, as a mother and loved his late father-in-law, Kenneth Weast dearly. Other survivors are many nieces and nephews; and his brothers from another mother, Brent Payne and Randy Grey.
The family will have a memorial service at a later date.
