Janet Greta Eagle's Obituary
Janet Greta McGinnis Eagle, age 89, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2015, at Carillon Assisted Living in Salisbury. Born on November 19, 1925, she was a daughter of the late W. Hinkle McGinnis and Iva Harris McGinnis of Kings Mountain.
Janet graduated from Kings Mountain High School and Lenoir Rhyne College. She retired from Rowan-Salisbury Schools after teaching 37 years at Cleveland, Corriher-Lipe and China Grove Middle Schools. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Landis.
Janet and Herman enjoyed traveling in their retirement years, taking various trips and cruises. For over 30 years they enjoyed the fun and fellowship with the Carolina Travel Trailer Club, pulling their Airstream trailer from the
mountains to the beaches.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman C. Eagle, Sr., whom she married on August 16, 1950; eight brothers, Abie, Claud Henry, Paul, Odell, Donald, Bill, Dick and Jim McGinnis; and three sisters, Lucille Sawyer, Geraldine Gonzales and Virginia Sabettie.
She is survived by her remaining sibling, sister, Dot Whetstine; her son, Herman Eagle, Jr. (Reidie); her daughter, Karen Childers; granddaughter, Summer Young (Jason); grandson, Andrew Eagle (Sabrina); great grandson, Eli Eagle; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Carillon Assisted Living of Salisbury and Rowan County Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving care and support.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, July 2, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Pastor Jarod Lanning will officiate. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 pm Thursday prior to the service at the church.
