Jerry Strickland Brown's Obituary
Ms. Jerry Strickland Brown, 80, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, February 16, 2018, at her home, surrounded by family.
A funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 pm Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Concord First Assembly. Pastor Joe Phillips will officiate. The family will receive friends from 11 to 12:45 pm Saturday at the church.
Ms. Brown was born April 26, 1937 in Fort Worth, TX. She was the daughter of the late Clarence Matthew Strickland and Lorena Murphy Strickland. She was a member of Concord First Assembly for over 35 years, where she served on the prayer ministry team. She was faithful, dedicating many hours of service to the Urban Ministry Program. She worked in banking her entire life, beginning with Federal Reserve and retiring with First Union. Upon retirement, she became a full time prayer warrior, establishing the "Big Guns Prayer Ministry" which continues today. She was a pioneer in the field of domestic violence, raising awareness through CVAN as a founder. She was on the Board of Directors of Helpline, where she dedicated many hours. In the 70s, Jerry was a Weight Watchers lecturer and was involved in Toastmasters, where she excelled in public speaking. Jerry loved her family and friends deeply, and will be missed by all.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in by her brother, Charles Strickland; and a niece, Renee Trimble.
Ms. Brown is survived by two daughters, Deborah Brown Wolfe of Wilmington and Rebecca Brown of Concord; son, David Brown and wife Vicky of Myrtle Beach, SC; four grandchildren, Matthew Fultz, Reed Brown, Melody Wolfe an Anna Wolfe; and one niece, Sherry Strickland Humphrey.
