Joan Carol Shumate's Obituary
Mrs. Joan Carol Harper Shumate, 72, passed away Monday, May 25, 2015, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.
A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 am, Thursday, at Carolina Memorial Park. Rev. Terry Medlin will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, at Lady’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis.
Mrs. Shumate was born February 16, 1943, in Madison, WV. She was the daughter of the late Jack and Mae Harper. She worked for the State of NC as a cook at Stonewall Jackson Training School in Concord, NC.
A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Joan loved going shopping and spending time with her girls. She was a member of the former South Concord Church of God.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Shumate, and her brother, Paul Harper.
Mrs. Shumate is survived by two sons, Bruce Shumate and wife Cheryl of Mt. Pleasant, Ronald Shumate and wife Michelle of Bluefield, WV; five grandchildren, Christy Medlin and husband Terry, Morgan Woodhan and husband Ryan, Talitha Costantino and husband Michael, Andrew Shumate, Ben Shumate; and twelve great-grandchildren.
