John Chalmers Eagle, Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. John Chalmers Eagle, Sr., 90, of 523 Villa Street, Kannapolis, died Monday, December 1, 2003, at his residence.
A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2003, at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. The Rev. Richard Rhoades will officiate. Interment will follow at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Salisbury.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. At other times they will be at the home of daughter, Yolonda Combs, 388 Laurel Crest Drive, Kannapolis.
Born March 23, 1913, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late John Joseph Eagle and Lizzie Ruth Rufty Eagle. Mr. Eagle formerly owned Eagle's Jewelry in Albemarle. He also managed stores for Leonard's Jewelry of Salisbury. He was a member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was a volunteer for Hospice of Cabarrus County and had previously served as a major in the Civil Air Patrol in Statesville. He was also a member of the Watchmakers Guild in Kannapolis, Salisbury and Albemarle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Yarborough Eagle; a grandson, Glenn Eric Eagle; and a half-sister, Pearl Leach.
Survivors include his wife, Margalene Hager Shimpock Eagle; two daughters, Nancy Eagle Peyton of Norwood and Yolonda Shimpock Combs and her husband, Mike, of Kannapolis; a son, John Chalmers Eagle, Jr. and his wife, Evelyn, of Charlotte; a half-sister, Louise Basinger of Salisbury; a half-brother, Richard Eller of Salisbury; two step-sisters, Inez Shepherd and Mary Agner, both of Salisbury; two step-brothers, Ned Eller and Floyd Eller, both of Salisbury; five grandchildren, Brian Chalmers Eagle and Theresa Allyson Mauldin, both of Charlotte, Keith Evan Eagle of Denver, NC, Steven Douglas Harper of Albemarle and John Joseph Peyton of Concord; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Eagle, Christopher Shawn Mauldin, Ashley Page Mauldin, Craig Douglas Harper and Steven Chalmers Harper.
