Joseph Perry Sills, Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Joseph Perry Sills, 83, of Kannapolis, died Monday, January 27, 2003, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Thursday, January 30, 2003, at Royal Oaks Presbyterian Church. Rev. Larry Pittman will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Sills was born August 17, 1919 in Gastonia, NC. He was a son of the late Perry Fletcher and Ocia Falls Sills. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II in the Philippines and later with the occupation forces in Japan. In 1946, he received an honorable discharge. Mr. Sills began his career with Whitin Machine Works in Charlotte in 1947, and continued with the company and its successors, Whitin Roberts and White Consolidated until his retirement in 1988. He sold and managed the installation of textile equipment with textile mills throughout the Southeast and South America.
Mr. Sills was a founding member , deacon and elder of Royal Oaks Presbyterian Church. He was a Master Mason of the Grand Lodge of North Carolina.
Mr. Sills is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vellie Honeycutt Sills; daughter, Angela Sills Baucom and her husband, Ladd, of Davidson; two sons, Jeffrey Kent Sills and his wife, Moira, of Fort Worth, TX, Joseph Perry Sills, Jr. and his wife, Molly, of Winston-Salem; four sisters, Jeanette McCommons and Inell Sills, both of Kannapolis, Mary Davis of Charlotte, Ruby Brown of North Myrtle Beach, SC; four grandchildren, Martin Baucom and his wife, Jennifer, of Durham, Brian Baucom and his wife, Emily, of Durham, Rosemary Sills and Caroline Sills, both of Fort Worth, TX, Ryan Sills, Katie Sills, and Gray Robinson, all of Winston-Salem.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Royal Oaks Presbyterian Church, 703 Tennessee Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
