Judith Lee Beaver Simmons' Obituary
Judith Lee Beaver Simmons, loving mother, blessed Mimi and dear friend, reunited with loved ones and met her Savior on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at the age of 77. Born July 31, 1946, Judie was the daughter of Harrion Alexander Beaver, Sr. and Hazel Lee Medlin Beaver of Landis, North Carolina. After graduating from South Rowan High School, she graduated from Kings Business College. She married Raymond Blackwood Simmons, Jr. on February 16, 1969. She spent years shining her light to others through a successful career in banking where she enjoyed interacting with people on a daily basis. As a past member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Landis, NC and the South Rowan Choral Ensemble, she shared her love of the Lord, music and song with others.
Always a “Daddy’s girl,” Judie followed in her Daddy’s footsteps by always having a kind and encouraging word to share with others both at work and in the community. A sweet spirit, Judie could often be found walking the many dogs she loved throughout her life in the Tuttlewood neighborhood where she and Ray built their family home. Seldom was Judie found to be walking alone. Her infectious personality gave her the ability to connect with neighbors of all ages, who looked forward to their daily walks which were always accompanied by heartfelt conversations laced with loving advice and words of encouragement.
Judie spent much of her life sharing Christ’s love for others as a dedicated volunteer for Hospice and her gift of caring for those in need was a blessing to patients and their families. Judie was an ever faithful partner and caretaker who was by her husband’s side prior to his passing after a lengthy illness in 2008. For more than 20 years, Judie has been challenged by declining and debilitating health, yet often reminded her family of her love for them and others with her words of affirmation. Judie had many cherished friends that filled her days with much joy. She was the epitome of Courageous Joy as she embraced her breast cancer diagnosis at the end of February 2023. She decided to live her life to the fullest rather than allow a treatment schedule to rob the precious time she had left to enjoy her family and friends!
Judie filled her last months with travel, music concerts, checking things off her bucket list and making many, many memories with family, friends and lots of margaritas! She was very thankful for the blessing of time during the last six months, and appreciated the opportunity to share with the people closest to her during that time. The family is especially grateful to Dottie, Mona and Melissa for their friendship with Judie. One of her most treasured friends was her precious dog, Marley who stayed lovingly and constantly by her side day and night. Judie was a Christian, spent significant time soul searching and was ready to move from this world to the next.
Judie was preceded in death by her parents, husband and only brother, Harrion Alexander Beaver, Jr of Jackonsville, Florida. Judie is survived by her son, William Simmons and his wife Melissa Simmons of Clearwater Beach, Florida; her daughter Christina Simmons and her husband Eric Blount of Kannapolis; grandchildren: Leigh-Ann Measamer and Austin Zygner of Woodleaf, Brittany Alexis Simmons and Kenneth Montouri of Concord, Brock and Brant Simmons of Clearwater Beach, Florida; and great grandchildren: Adam, Peyton and Noah.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Cabarrus County for their warmhearted and compassionate care.
Judie always wanted to be laid to rest beside her daddy at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Landis, however she also was going to miss traveling and exploring with her family throughout their lives. She decided to be cremated so that she could both rest beside her daddy as well as travel with others via hummingbird necklaces worn by those who love her dearly.
Judie’s Celebration of Life will be graveside on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 1:00pm at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery at the corner of Mt. Moriah Church Road and Highway 153 in Landis, NC. The family invites all who held Judie dear to their hearts to join them for this special time of sharing memories and honoring a life well-lived! This time of remembrance will conclude with a special dove release.
The family requests that memorials be made to Susan G. Komen Foundation.
