Lucille Upright Laney's Obituary
Mrs. Lucille Upright Laney, 85, of Kannapolis, died Friday, January 16, 2009, at CMC-NorthEast.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church. The Rev. Steve Beam and the Rev. Ralph Adams will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home of her son, Roger Laney, 2430 Saguaro Lane, Kannapolis.
Born October 30, 1923 in Rowan County, Mrs. Laney was the daughter of the late Chalmers Gibson Upright and Martha Belle Link Upright. A former employee of Cannon Mills, Mrs. Laney retired several years ago from Big Elm Retirement Center. She was a member of North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church, where she was involved in the music ministry for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. R. B. Laney; a daughter, Martha Laney Barbee; three sisters; and four brothers.
Survivors include a son, Roger Laney and wife, Betty, of Kannapolis; two grandchildren, Mary Ann Jeschke of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Steve Barbee and wife, Dawn, of Kannapolis; great-grandson, Kristopher Odom; and her son-in-law, James Barbee of Kannapolis.
Memorials may be sent to North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church, 314 W. 12th Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
