Marvin Edward Sides' Obituary
Mr. Marvin Edward Sides, 89, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2011, at Big Elm Nursing Center in Kannapolis.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Sunday, January 9, 2011, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Rick Wilson and Rev. Al Branscum will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 pm Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Sides was born November 13, 1921 in Cabarrus County. He was a son of the late Charley Robinson Sides and Janie Elizabeth Smith Sides. He worked at Cannon Mills Plant 5 in Concord as a quill cleaner. He later ran gas stations in Salisbury and Concord and retired from Goodrich. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where served in World War II. He was an avid fisherman and especially loved fishing at the Outer Banks. He was a member of Calvary Foursquare Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Fannie Elizabeth Whitaker, Bertha Lee Pearson, and Geneva Elsie McManus; and three brothers, Charlie Alexander, Andrew Jackson, Raymond Wesley and Harvey Hugh Sides.
Mr. Sides is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy "Dot" Dixon Sides; one sister, Dorothy "Dot" Marie Burleyson of Concord; brother, Robert Junior "Bobby" Sides of Concord; and a number of nieces and nephews.
