Max Ray Gibbons' Obituary
Mr. Max Ray Gibbons, 80, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.
A memorial service is scheduled for 4:00 pm Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Landis. Pastor Jarrod Lanning and Pastor Graham Nahouse will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 3:45 pm Wednesday at the church.
Mr. Gibbons was born June 28, 1936 in Kannapolis. He was a son of the late Brock B. Gibbons and Ruth Ellen Moon Gibbons. A graduate of A.L. Brown High School and Catawba College, he went on to receive his Master’s Degree and EDS Degree from Appalachian State University. He was a teacher for six years prior to becoming the principal for 10 years at Corriher-Lipe Junior High School in Landis. In 1974, he became principal at the Cleveland Elementary School, where he remained until his retirement in 1998, completing 40 years with the Rowan-Salisbury School System. He was also a member of the NC Retired Government Employees Teachers and Principals.
Max was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Landis for 53 years, where he taught Sunday school for 40 years and served three terms on the church council. He was also a lay reader and member of the Men’s Brotherhood and on the Parish Education Committee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh Gibbons and Roy Gibbons.
Mr. Gibbons is survived by his wife of 57 years, Hilda Montgomery Gibbons; daughter, Leslie Savage and husband Vince of Reidsville, NC; and two grandchildren, Kenan and Baden Savage.
