Melvin Junior Lawing's Obituary
Mr. Melvin Junior Lawing, 79, a resident of Carebridge Assisted Living in Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Victoria Avenue in Kannapolis, died Saturday, February 12, 2005, at the W. G. "Bill" Hefner Medical Center in Salisbury.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at Shadybrook Baptist Church. Dr. Dave Holladay will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The body will remain at Lady's Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of his daughter, Kimberly Lawing Rinehardt, 117 Brackenberry Circle in Mt. Pleasant.
Born August 7, 1925, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late Esley Fuel "Spigel" Lawing and Minnie Alma Lowder Lawing. He retired several years ago from the packing room of Cannon Mills, Plant One in Kannapolis. He was a member of Shadybrook Baptist Church where he was active in Sunday school. Mr. Lawing was a US Army veteran or World War II. He was a taxidermist and a member of the NRA. He formerly ran Bob White Skeet Range. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking and bluegrass music.
His wife, Margaret Kirkley Lawing, preceded him in death on April 7, 1998.
Survivors include his daughter, Kimberly Lawing Rinehardt and her husband, Joe Douglas Rinehardt, of Mt. Pleasant; and a granddaughter, Whitney Bliss Rinehardt, of Mt. Pleasant.
