Mildred Reeves Wilkerson's Obituary
Mildred Jane Reeves Wilkerson, went to her heavenly home on Monday, December 3, 2007 in Monroe where she lived with her granddaughter, Mrs. Burt (Jane W.) Humphries. For five years prior to moving to Monroe, she made her home with her niece, Mrs. Billy (Wren) Philpot.
She was born April 25, 1917 in Lancaster County, SC, the daughter of the late David Reeves and Beulah Reeves Small. She moved to Kannapolis as a young woman to work for Cannon Mills and retired from the sewing room in 1979. She was a faithful member of Jackson Park Baptist Church for over 50 years, teaching in the children's Sunday school, serving in the WMU and in later years enjoying the Ageless Wonders group. She loved to sew and work in her flower garden. She will be remembered as a caring, giving and courageous woman.
Mildred never learned to drive a car, but she enjoyed driving her electric wheelchair on long walks with her dedicated caregiver, Frances Sappenfield. The family wishes to thank Frances for the five years she devoted to providing quality care for Mildred.
Survivors include two sons, Johnny Wilkerson and wife, Katrina, Jimmie Wilkerson and wife, Martha; a daughter, Mary Evelyn Lambert and husband, Melvin; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Rick Durham and the Rev. Patricia Humphries-Bivens will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
