Olin Ray Joplin's Obituary
Mr. Olin Ray Joplin, 75, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Tucker Hospice House.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church. Rev. Billy Locklear will officiate. Mr. Joplin will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. Interment will be Wednesday at 3:00 pm at Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery in Mt. Croghan, SC.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Lady’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of Karen Poteat, 1270 Elizabeth Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
Mr. Joplin was born on March 17, 1939 in South Carolina. He was a son of the late Rufus Joplin and Pearlie Linton Joplin. He retired from the slicer room of Cannon Mills.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandson, Joshua M. Poteat; and four sisters, Mildred Arrington, Gladys Marsh, Minnie Pittman and Linda Jenkins.
Mr. Joplin is survived by his wife, Catherine Williams Joplin; four children, Billy Ray Joplin, Dean Joplin, Karen J. Poteat and Barbara J. Arico, all of Kannapolis; two sisters, Betty Davis, of Kannapolis and Madge Cook, of Pageland, SC; eleven grandchildren, Angie Shoup, Jason Joplin, Carrie Poteat Seldomridge, Alisha Joplin, Jeremy D. Marlow, Kammie M. Grindstaff, Justin, Travis, Brandon, Courtney and Alex Joplin; and eleven great-grandchildren, Kayla Shoup, Taylor and Ashley Joplin, Austin Shoup, Meghan Joplin, Peyton Seldomridge, Rylan and Titus Grindstaff, Joshua H. Seldomridge, Skylar Ballard and Landyn Hoyt.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church, 229 Westover Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
