Rachel Payne Van Pelt's Obituary
Rachel Payne Van Pelt, 89, a resident of St. Andrews Living Center in Concord, and formerly of South Cannon Boulevard in Kannapolis, died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born January 5, 1916, in Gaston County, she was a daughter of the late Zeb W. Payne and Lillian Carpenter Payne. She retired several years ago from Cannon Mills, Plant One in Kannapolis. She was a charter member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church of Concord.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Herbert Van Pelt, who died August 21, 1980; four brothers, Fred Payne, Yates Payne, Troy Payne and Ernest Payne; and four sisters, Ruby Payne, Becky Payne Turner Hill, Jeanette Payne and Aleene Payne Gaston.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Van Pelt and his wife, Mary Ann, of Graham and Ricky Van Pelt and his wife, Dale, of Duluth, Georgia; two sisters, Betty Payne Cline and Gail Payne Bost, both of Kannapolis; and four grandchildren, Charles Van Pelt and his wife, Tamitha, Kathryn Van Pelt Poe and her husband, Darren, Jeffrey Van Pelt and Lindsay Van Pelt.
