Roger Dale Laney's Obituary
Mr. Roger Dale Laney, 65, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at CHS-NorthEast in Concord.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, September 1, 2018, at Kannapolis Church of God. The body will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8:30 pm Friday at Kannapolis Church of God.
Mr. Laney was born February 2, 1953 in Cabarrus County. He was the son of the late Rev. R.B. Laney and Martha Lucille Upright Laney. He was a 1971 graduate of A.L. Brown High School and attended Central Piedmont Community College and Rowan Cabarrus Community College. Roger gave his time and musical talent to various area churches as an organist and music director. In his earlier years, he was an Assistant Manager at the former Jackson Park Pharmacy where he was known for his orangeade fountain drinks. He later worked in Outpatient Services at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Roger has been affiliated with Lady's Funeral Home for more than 50 years playing and singing for services and began working full time as a funeral assistant in 2002.
Roger is a member at Concord First Assembly, Kannapolis Camp of Gideons International and the Charlotte Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Laney Barbee.
Roger is survived by his wife, Betty Query Laney; nephew, Steve Barbee and wife Dawn of Kannapolis; niece, Mary Ann Barbee and wife Gracie of Green Bay, WI; great nephew, Kristopher Odom of Kannapolis; four sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Moose, Millie Gray, Sharry Isenhour and Kathy Popwell; one brother-in-law, Marvin Query; and many extended family members.
