Sylvia Kay Hartley's Obituary
Ms, Sylvia "Kay" Young Hartley, 58, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013 at her home.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm Friday, March 1, 2013 at Kannapolis Church of God. Rev. Barbara Watkins will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:15 pm Friday at the church prior to the service.
Kay was born on October 31, 1954 in Rowan County. She was a daughter of George Young of China Grove and the late Helen Wilson Young. Kay graduated from South Rowan High School where she had 12 years of perfect attendance. After 26 years of employment with Fieldcrest-Cannon, she worked as a probate secretary for the NC Department of Corrections in Salisbury. Kay was a member of Kannapolis Church of God. She enjoyed watching the Hallmark Chanel and the 700 Club on TV. She loved to cook for her family and friends. Kay enjoyed caring for others when in need.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda Gibson and Pat Rogers.
Kay is survived by her father; two children, Charles "Chip" R. Schenck, IV and wife Angie of Kannapolis and Starla Kay Schenck of Dartmouth, MA; sister, Linda Pope of China Grove; brother Michael Young of China Grove; and four grandchildren; Aiden Schenck, Brycen Schenck, Maegan Sylvia and Brady Santerre.
