She was born in Madison County, Georgia on December 28, 1923, to Toombs R. Daniel and Evie Delree Carithers Daniel.
Mrs. Fortson grew up in Georgia and at a young age moved to Landis with her family. At the age of 17 she met the love of her life, Fred Stone Fortson, and they were married on May 16, 1942. They were married for more than 66 years and raised four children, (David, Becky, Terry and Perry). She worked for Cannon Mills for more than 43 years and was always fond of the many memories and friends she made while employed there. The many friends and family left to cherish her memory will remember her as a hard worker, a devoted friend and a Christian faith that never waivered no matter the circumstances. She possessed a great sense of grace and strength that impacted everyone around her. Her gentleness made her a favorite of grandchildren and great grandchildren. She just always knew what to do or to say with everyone she came in contact with.
In addition to her parents and 9 siblings, Mrs. Fortson was preceded in death by two twin sons, Perry Lee Fortson and Terry Lynn Fortson.
