William David Riggs' Obituary
Mr. William "Bill" David Riggs, 85, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Five Oaks Manor in Concord.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, September 1, 2013 at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. Dr. Richard Graf and Rev. Michael Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military honors conducted about Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:00 pm, Sunday, prior to the service at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church.
Mr. Riggs was born on April 11, 1928 in Kannapolis. He was a son of the late Lonnie Riggs and Vernie Ritchie Riggs. He graduated from Cannon High School and was US Army veteran. He retired as a salesman with Commercial Printing. Bill was a lifelong member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed cooking meals for the men's group. Bill was an avid hunter. He served as assistant Scout Master of First Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jamie Nell Austin Riggs; sister, Jean Riggs; and two brothers, Tommy and Joe Riggs.
Mr. Riggs is survived by his three daughters, Patricia Hinman of Weatherford, TX and Cheryl Honeycutt and Celia Benson both of Raleigh; special sweetheart, Dot Freeze of Kannapolis; sister-in-law, Ann Riggs of Gastonia; lifelong friend, Don Efird of Kannapolis; and numerous grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, 101 Vance Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
