Bertha Morton Cody's Obituary
Mrs. Bertha Morton Cody, 93, a resident of First Assembly Living Center, Concord, and formerly of Brookshire Avenue in Kannapolis, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church. The Rev. Evelyn Browning and the Rev. Tom Whidden will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church. At other times they will be at the home of a daughter, Raychel Carroll, 615 Peacehaven Road, Kannapolis.
Born January 17, 1910, in Montgomery County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel A. Morton and the late Mary Nancy Elizabeth Dennis Morton. Mrs. Cody was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church. She was a devoted Christian and served faithfully with her husband, the Rev. Ray S. Cody in the United Methodist Church ministry for 40 years. She attended high school and college in Oswego, NY. Bertha was a loving and beloved woman who enriched the lives of her family and friends. Her quick humor and her ability as an animated storyteller will linger in the hearts of all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Ray S. Cody, whom she married June 2, 1937; two daughters, Nancy C. Porter and her husband, Harry, of Seabrook, Texas, Raychel Carroll and her husband, Danny, of Kannapolis; four granddaughters, Christine Hoyle of Lincolnton, Valerie Marcott of LaPorte, Texas, Kimberly Page of Kannapolis and Sara Carroll of Concord; five great-grandchildren, Shannon Hoyle and Kasey Hoyle, both of Lincolnton, Courtney Allen of LaPorte, TX, Turner Page and McKenzie Page, both of Kannapolis.
