Claude Franklin Elwood's Obituary
Mr. Claude Franklin Elwood, 90, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at Tucker Hospice House.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm Saturday, August 23, 2014, at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Gene Edwards will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 2:00 pm prior to the service at Lady’s Funeral Home.
Mr. Elwood was born on August 15, 1924 in Cabarrus County. He was a son of the late Thomas Elwood and Minnie Hough Elwood. He retired after 45 years from Cannon Mills where he worked as a knitter in the weave room. After retirement, he worked at the Underpass Service Station. Mr. Elwood was a member of Genesis Baptist Church. He was deeply loved by his family, his church and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Claude David Elwood; four sisters, Emma Haynes, Mary Allman, Lela Scarboro and Dessie Earley; and seven brothers, Ebb, Floyd, Roy, Melvin, Clyde and Bill Elwood and Wilson Hough.
Mr. Elwood is survived by his wife, Tina Cox Elwood; two sons, Randal Franklin Elwood and fiancée , Amy Giraldo, of Leesburg, FL and Tyrone Anthony Elwood and fiancée, Pat Stack, of Salisbury; three grandchildren, Martha Lee Elwood, of Florida, Lynlee Mishel Elwood Benfield and husband, John, of Loris, SC and Trevor Anthony Elwood, of Blacksburg, SC; great grandson, Colton Benfield; two sisters, Irene Elwood Lowder of Landis and Margie Elwood Helms and husband, Roy, of Oakboro; and brother, Ira “Doc” Elwood, of Mt. Pleasant.
